Houck’s Ridge Panorama: August 2010

The photographer is standing on Houck’s Ridge just down the ridge from the monument to the 99th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment (shown in the right portion of this shot), facing Little Round Top and Plum Run Valley. This view was taken at approximately 1:00 PM on Friday, August 27th. For a medium-sized version of the panorama click here. For the larger JPEG version, click here. If you’d like to see the uncompressed TIFF file, you can download it here (119 MB).

We have significantly widened our customary view from Houck’s Ridge for this weekend’s panorama. The battlefield is still quite the busy place this late in August, as you’ll notice from all the visitors on top of Little Round Top and roaming around Devil’s Den.

The photographer is standing behind (east of) the monument to the 99th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, located on Houck’s Ridge, above (north of) Devil’s Den.

The photograph starts on the left (north) showing Houck’s Ridge, and pans to the right (southwest) showing the witness tree remaining on top of Devil’s Den and the monument to the 99th Pennsylvania.
