Licensed Battlefield Guide Stuart Dempsey is standing near the monument to the 75th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment on East Howard Avenue. On July 1, 1863 Colonel Franz Mahler was “shot off his horse as he led the regiment against the enemy, but he paid no attention to the wound and remained with his men. Shortly thereafter he was fatally wounded by a second bullet.” Mahler died on July 5, 1863. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.
