The Josiah Benner Farm with Tony Giuffreda: Part 2

Before its recent acquisition by the National Park Service (with help from the Civil War Trust), the 9-acre Josiah Benner Farm was owned by Tony Giuffreda and his family. In today’s post Tony gives us more history on the house and tells us a few anecdotes about the individuals he’s met through his ownership of the Benner property.

Our tour guide for this series is Tony Giuffreda. Tony and his wife Susan bought the property in 1993 and raised six children in the Benner House. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 11:15 AM on Monday, October 21, 2011.

Tony discusses the history of the house from its construction in 1847 to present day.

Tony explains how he was visited by one of the relatives of Josiah Benner one Sunday morning and talks about some curious stains he’s found on the floor of the home.

Tony goes into some detail about the history of the ownership of the house and talks briefly about Mr. Jordan, the owner before the Giuffredas, and Tony’s promise to him to keep the house the way it was shown to him in “that old Civil War photograph.”

The Josiah Benner Barn was acquired by the National Park Service within the last decade, before the recent acquisition of the house. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 11:15 AM on Monday, October 21, 2011.
