Powers Hill Tree Removal: Update

The camera position is located on the southeastern slope of Powers Hill. The majority of the trees that you see in the foreground of this view will be removed. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

Progress has continued on the tree clearing project in progress on Powers Hill in Gettysburg National Military Park. In our last posting on the clearing we mentioned a second breach in the wall, which we will show you today.

We are standing along Blacksmith Shop Road, looking towards the staging area and breach in the stone wall on Powers Hill. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

Here’s some of the wood that has been removed from the hill so far. This view was taken facing east at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

… Are these pallets. These are the removed stones from the two breaches necessary for construction equipment to access the hill. This view was facing north at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

Once the project is complete, the rocks will be returned to their position in the stone wall. This view was facing north at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

All the trees within this view before the stone wall are inside the National Park Service’s “Removal Boundary” for this project.
