Peace Light Cleaning Update: A Little More Progress



A little more cleaning work has been accomplished at the Eternal Light Peace Memorial. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2009.

A little more work on cleaning graffiti from the Eternal Light Peace Memorial (Peace Light) was accomplished on Thursday. The graffiti on either side of the east steps has mostly been cleaned, but not completely. The words and symbols are still readable, and the National Park Service has chosen not to recover these areas.



Last Friday work on the front (south) side of the monument was attempted. Yesterday (Thursday), the graffiti on either side of the closest (east) steps were attempted to be cleaned. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2009.



The first cleaning attempt last Friday was on the front (south) side of the monument. The words and symbols here have still not been completely removed. This view was taken facing north at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2009.



Let’s go back to the east steps. Even from this distance, one can see the writing that has been cleaned. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2009.

This very graphic symbol isn’t exactly hidden is it? This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2009.



The graffiti on the north and east sides have still not been cleaned. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2009.



There is still a mark on the figures representing peace and good will between the north and the south still has a mark. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2009.



We can’t remember if this was related to the January incident. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2009.
