The parking lots are full for Labor Day weekend as thousands of visitors have descended on the battlefield. Some might wonder why we bother pointing this out. Isn’t it obvious that the battlefield is crowded during summer holiday weekends? See our post of yesterday, August 30, 2008 to verify that some associated with the battlefield are clueless, or don’t care about National Park Service visitation patterns.
There are three main parking lots for passenger vehicles at the new Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. Lots 1 and 2 are closer to the center, and located on its south side. Here is Lot 3. It is very crowded for Labor Day weekend. This view was taken from the southeast facing northwest at approximately 2:30 PM on Sunday, August 31, 2008.
Lot 3 is an employee lot during the summer and also used as an “overflow” lot. At times this afternoon, one could not find a parking place here. This view was taken from the southwest facing northeast at approximately 2:30 PM on Sunday, August 31, 2008.
