Major construction work has been taking place in Gettysburg over the past few weeks. As part of two contracts that were bid out by the Borough last year, work has began in earnest on projects for both South Washington Street and Steinwehr Avenue. The largest of the projects is the approximately 2 million dollar Steinwehr Avenue project, which according to the Gettysburg Times includes “new sidewalk bricking, disabled-access improvements, curb cuts, new trees, mounted lighting, and intersection upgrades along a one-block stretch from Baltimore Street to South Washington Street and Taneytown Road.” Today we’ll show you a few photos of the construction so far.
Most of the work being performed at the moment is on the sidewalk and piping on the northwest side of the street. The Alexander Dobbin House is out of view on the left. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 1:30 PM on Friday, March 4, 2011.
