The restroom/comfort station in Spangler’s Spring, soon to be serviced by the restored water-line we have covered in the past, has been given a new roof.

The 1930s structure, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, is in the right-hand portion of this view. The recently cleared McAllister’s Field is in the background. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

In the last two weeks, the comfort station has received a new roof. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Approximately $300,000 was spent to bring running water to this non-historic structure. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Here’s a look at the nice new shingles. This view was facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Our original coverage came on the heels of the National Park Service deciding to tear down an identical comfort station at Devil’s Den. This view was facing southeast at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Warning: Even if the restroom was open, the recent heavy rains have made this entire area very muddy. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

It was recently brought to our attention that the Devil’s Den Comfort Station had also had its roof repaired, just a few years before it was ultimately removed. This view was taken facing north at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Because of the low ground where the comfort station is located, mud will always be a problem. Straw has been placed in this area, around the only current viable restrooms for visitors. This view was west facing northeast at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Note the sky-lights that have been installed. The latest official word is that the restroom is expected to open “later this summer.” This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
