Cyclorama Construction Fencing: Completed on North Side, Redone on West Side

The construction fences on the west side of the Cyclorama building have now been placed on the east side of the sidewalk leading to the Bryan House. They no longer strech west to Hancock Avenue. The marker in the left foreground is the left flank marker to the 108th New York Infantry Regiment. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Construction fences at the old Cyclorama Center are now in place on the north side, and have been put back to a safer location on the west side. We showed you the south and east sides in our post for February 27, 2009. On March 1, 2009 we showed how the fences on the west side were too close to Hancock Avenue. As you will see in today’s post, the potential safety hazard for visitors has fixed.

We start our tour at the fence across the sidewalk leading from the Cyclorama parking lot. We will walk away from the camera towards the west. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The fencing has been completed on the north side of the Cyclorama. This view was taken facing west at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The fence stays on the right (south) of the marker for Martin’s Battery F, Fifth United States Artillery. This view was taken facing east at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

A wider view of the fencing on the north side. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The monument to the 108th New York Infantry Regiment still remains accessible. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The fence then turns to the right or south. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

We’ll now walk south down the sidewalk and along the fence. The Alfred Woolson monument is on the right. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The fence stays to the left (east) of the sidewalk as we walk behind Bigelow’s 9th Massachusetts Battery. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The sidewalk has now been removed of fencing so that there is a clear path all the way to the Bryan House… This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

… and visitors can safely stay on the left (east) side of the Bryan House instead of walking out on Hancock Avenue. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The fence then heads eastward back to the Cyclorama Center. The fences come out this far because they still need to remove some underground tanks on the west side of the building. This view was taken facing east at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

So the fence that used to come out to Hancock Avenue… This view was taken facing east at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

…now stops at the intersection of the two sidewalks east of Hancock Avenue. This view was taken facing east at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

A last look at the western fence, looking north. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2009.
