Gettysburg at Arlington Part 23: Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Kohr

Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Kohr is standing near the grave of Clermont Livingston Best, who was the Adjustant and Inspector General for the Twelfth Corps during the Gettysburg Campaign. Best was brevetted Lieutenant Colonel on July 3, 1863 “for gallant and meritorious service in the Battle of Gettysburg.” He was brevetted Colonel in March, 1865 for “good conduct and gallant service during the war.” This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 8, 2010.

Arlington National Cemetery, overlooking Washington, D.C., has many connections to Gettysburg and to the Gettysburg Campaign. There are many more connections than to only Robert E. Lee’s residence, and John F. Kennedy’s grave. Almost every row in the older sections have someone buried there who had a link to Gettysburg.

Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Kohr is standing near the grave of William Talley, who commanded the 1st Pennsylvania Reserves during the Gettysburg Campaign. Following the war, Talley served as a Collector for the Internal Revenue Service, and as a Democratic newspaper publisher in Chester Pennsylvania. In 1874 he was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature, and served one term. Because of financial problems, he left politics, sold his newspaper, and moved to Washington, D.C. There he was a proof reader for the Congressional Record. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
