In Video #72 (Videos #1-#71 were shown in our previous Eleventh Corps posts) Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Stuart Dempsey is standing on the southwest corner of the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Carlisle Street. He describes the action of Heckman’s Ohio Battery in this area. The photographer is standing on Carlisle Street near its intersection with Lincoln Avenue which runs right to left (east to west) at the traffic light. The monument to Heckman’s Ohio Battery is to the left of Carlisle Street. Heckman’s battery was placed somewhere in this area, and possibly on the rise where the camera position is, firing at Confederates who were moving on and near the Carlisle Road/Carlisle Street towards this position. This view was taken facing north at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday, August 1, 2010.

This is the same camera position as the previous photograph, however the view is towards the town of Gettysburg. Union soldiers from the Eleventh Corps retreated towards town along the Carlisle Road/Carlisle Street. Notice how the ground rises towards the center square/circle/diamond in the middle of town where the United States flag is barely visible on its flagpole in the middle of the square. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday, August 1, 2010.

Licensed Battlefield Guide Stuart Dempsey is standing on the north side of Pennsylvania Hall on the campus of Gettysburg College. The building was constructed in 1838. It is the College’s oldest building. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday, August 1, 2010.
