The peach trees in Joseph Sherfy’s Peach Orchard, more commonly known as “the Peach Orchard,” were replanted at the beginning of April, 2008. This month, they appear to our untrained eyes to be fairly healthy. A couple of weeks ago, they were all in bloom. This view was taken facing west at approximately at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

In today’s post we update the condition of the peach trees in Sherfy’s Peach Orchard at the intersection of the Emmitsburg Road and Wheatfield Road. We also show how the fence along the Millerstown Road, which had been flattened by an inebriated driver, has recently been repaired.

Eleven days later, they had lost their blossoms. This view was taken facing west at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, April 24, 2009.

Looking up the blooming row of trees towards the monuments to Hampton’s Battery F, Pennsylvania Independent Battery and the 68th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment (Scott’s Legion). This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

Here’s a similar view as the previous photograph with the trees past the blooming stage. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, April 24, 2009.

A view of the monument to the Third Michigan Infantry Regiment before the peach trees were planted last year. They were just marked with the pink flags. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 4:30 PM on Friday, April 4, 2008.

A couple of weeks ago, instead of pink flags, we had trees with pink blossoms. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

Now the green trees blend into the hillside. We’re sure they’ll be more prominent next year. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, April 24, 2009.

The Peach Orchard area (that contains the trees) has been closed to the public for the past three years (two years to treat the ground after the old trees were cut out, and one year with these trees). So our photographs have been taken around the edges of the Peach Orchard. This view was taken facing west at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

We think the National Park Service has done an outstanding job with the Peach Orchard rehabilitation project. Approximately 120 trees have been replanted. Big Round Top is in the background. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

The fence on the north side of the Millerstown Road (between West Confederate Avenue and the Emmitsburg Road) has been hit twice over the winter in two alcohol-related incidents. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

The fence was in this condition for approximately two months before the National Park Service claimed that they did not have enough personnel to repair it. This view was taken facing west at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

The road sign was still in this position for two months. This view was taken facing west at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, April 24, 2009.

Hundreds of feet of fencing were taken out in the two incidents. This view was taken facing west at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

After the Park Seasonals began to come back a couple of weeks ago, the fences were finally repaired. This view was taken facing west at approximately 2:30 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2009.

There was a gate knocked over in this area. It is laying on the ground. The Joseph Sherfy House and Barn are in the background. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009.

This picture shows that the gate has been repaired. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 2:30 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2009.
