It is finally passable! The south side of the Reynolds Avenue Bridge This view was taken from the south facing north at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.

It’s not finished yet, but our seventh visit to the Reynolds Avenue Bridge, or Railroad Cut Bridge since March turned out to be a winner. The bridge was opened up to traffic this (Friday) afternoon. The rails on the sides aren’t completed, so the sidewalks on each side aren’t open. Also the lines aren’t painted on the road, but traffic is allowed to cross the bridge. Please see previous Gettysburg Daily posts on this bridge’s progess on March 16th, March 21st, March 29th, April 8th, May 11th, and May 23rd.

The railings are not finished on the side of the bridge, so concrete barriers have been put into place for safety. Unfortunately, they block the sidewalk and make the bridge less safe for those walking across the bridge. This view if from the southwest facing northeast at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.

The bridge was scheduled to open May 19th, so it is only opening eleven days late. The situation with the railings is the same on the west side as it is on the east side. View is from the southwest looking northeast at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.

A view from the north side of the bridge. Reynolds’ Woods, or Herbst’s Woods, or McPherson’s Woods are in the distance above the bridge. View is from the north facing south at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.

The construction workers left quickly this afternoon and left their equipment on this ground where the Union infantry fired their first shots of the battle. This view was taken from the north facing south at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.

A closer view of the equipment on the west side of Reynolds Avenue. This view if from the northeast facing southwest at approximately 4:45 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008.
