Though our title suggests that all the comfort stations around the battlefield are open, you’ll find that the Spangler’s Spring Comfort Station (background) is still closed for restoration. April brings warmer weather, and with it, many more visitors to the battlefield. When spring arrives the National Park Service reopens a number of comfort stations and restrooms.

As far as news about the fascinating minutiae of Gettysburg portable toilet placement goes, the portables are back in place at Big Round Top … This view was facing northwest at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

… and to the not-so-pleasant location of these portable toilets. Regular readers of the Gettysburg Daily will know that we have never been big fans of this location. This view was taken facing south at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

Back in April of 2010 we suggested that the National Park Service could move the restrooms here, next to this small parking area on the north side of Little Round Top. It seems that the National Park Service agrees, and rumor has it that the portable toilets will be moved to this location in the near future. Finally, as we approach the year anniversary of our coverage of the Spangler’s Spring Water Line, the restroom that benefited from the replacement of that 1930s water-line continues to be out of commission. Yes, those portable toilets in the right-hand portion of this view are still the only restrooms available to visitors until restoration work on the comfort station is complete.
