Christ Lutheran Church, as it appeared in September of 2009. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 7:15 AM on Sunday, September 26, 2009.

In April of 2009, we visited Christ Lutheran Church in a six part series that you can find by clicking here. Since the removal of the historic Linden witness trees on the church property (and their hopeful renewal), we were once again afforded an opportunity to climb up into the cupola and take a few pictures without the trees to obscure our view. For a preview of the musical portion of Candelight at Christ Church, please see Tuesday’s posting.

We’ll begin by looking to the southeast. Visible in the center of this view is the Adams County Courthouse. This view was taken facing east at approximately 11:24 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

The mostly empty concrete parking lot in the center foreground was once the spot of the Eagle Hotel. Today it is home to a 7-11, popular with students at Gettysburg College, which is just out of view. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 11:24 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

Due to tree clearing initiatives on Oak Ridge by the National Park Service as part of their battlefield restoration/rehabilitation, it is possible to see the Eternal Light Peace Memorial on Oak Hill in the background. Prominent buildings at Gettysburg College are also visible, including Gladfelter Hall on the left, and Pennsylvania Hall in the center. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 11:24 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

For more information on the cupola, as well as the 1788 bell shown here, please take a look at this posting. Tomorrow we will bring you our “stories” portion of the Candlelight Program. This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 11:24 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
